The Fiji Sugar Cooperation has predicted a low yield from this year’s crushing season.
Acting Chief Executive Deo Sharan said over 220,0000 tons of sugar is expected to be produced this year and they will have to export almost all the produce to the European Union market to meet their demands.
Meanwhile, cane harvesting in Penang and Lautoka mill area is expected to begin today. FSC hopes that there will be minimal mill break downs this year compared to previous years as all the four sugar mills have been maintained well.
Crushing in Penang and Lautoka Sugar mills will begin today, whereas Rarawai Sugar mill will start crushing on 18th June and Labasa Mill on 24th June.
