The Fiji Rugby Union is yet to decide on the rugby sponsorships.
When contacted late last night, FRU board director responsible for sponsorships Baljeet Singh only said that there is no decision as yet.
Digicel Fiji confirmed to Fijivillage yesterday that its sponsorship for Fiji Rugby will make it the biggest in the history of any sport in the country once the FRU accepts its offer.
Digicel Fiji CEO Maurice McCarthy confirmed that Digicel had asked FRU to sign a Memorandum of Agreement by 5pm yesterday so that it can immediately release a cash advance of $250,000 to the FRU.
McCarthy said they want to issue the cheque as soon as possible due to the current financial situation of the FRU.
There is no doubt that Digicel’s sponsorship will bring much relief to the FRU and the 7s team.
We asked McCarthy about the value of the sponsorship to Fiji rugby.
McCarthy said the FRU Chairman had earlier confirmed that Digicel Fiji would get the rugby sponsorship if it matches any other offer put forward.

He is yet to comment.
