The Fiji Rugby Union has thrown its support behind National 15's coach Ilivasi Tabua to take up the role of Head Coach of the Pacific Islander's Rugby Team.

The FRU board will meet this afternoon to look at the benefits that rugby in the country will get from Tabua if he is appointed to the position, as he has already been approached.

FRU board vice chairman Mosese Nailumu said that having Tabua in charge of the PIRA team would give players from Fiji more chances to be part of the team. In previous years Samoa and Tonga have dominated the squad. He said Tabua's assistant coaches may come from Samoa and Tonga.

The FRU board meeting this afternoon will also go through the reports tabled by Fiji 7s coach Joe Savou and manager Opetaia Ravai after the Hong Kong and Adelaide 7s tournaments.

The meeting will start at 5pm.
