The Fiji Rugby Union Games Committee stands firm by its decision, on the Pacific Mini Games 7s players who failed to adhere to National duties protocol but were allowed to represent their provinces.

This after some concerns were raised by the Suva Rugby Union which FRU agreed to that stiff penalties must be issued to players who put their unions interest first before National duties.

A statement issued by the FRU states that the current policy which is under review does not allow that, and it must be noted by the Unions and the stakeholders that the Games Committee operates independently.

The FRU is asking the unions especially Suva to bear with them during the review period as they are looking to put in place policies and processes to address re-curring issues faced by FRU.

This year some Unions have gone to the courts and FRU agrees there is a need for checkpoints to ensure that the process are working consistently as planned.

Earlier this week Suva rugby chairman Commander Francis Kean issued a statement calling the FRU to come down hard on players who fail to adhere to the call for national duties.

Meanwhile, Suva will host Vatukoula 3.30pm this Saturday at the ANZ Stadium and you can catch the live commentary on our sister station Viti FM.
