The Fiji Rugby Union has responded to reports that the Fiji Secondary Schools Under 18 team had to ask for donations in Australia to assist them with accommodation and meals because the FRU had failed to provide any funding.

In a statement, FRU confirmed that Fiji Secondary Schools rugby does not come under the FRU and is only an affiliate.

The Fiji Secondary Schools Union requested FRU for funding a week before the tour departure and FRU was unable to provide funding due to financial constraints.

Last week the Fiji Under 18 side left despite being $80,000 short of their budgeted amount for the tour.

The side will play the New Zealand Schoolboys at 5pm this Friday in their second match.
