Fiji's outstanding performance at the Rugby World Cup and the expansion of its development program has led to an increase in the development grant from the International Rugby Board of FD$135,000 for 2008, taking the overall IRB's Trust Grant to FD$600,000.

According to Will Glenwright, the IRB'Ss General Manager for Oceania, the 29% increase "is a reflection of the good work being done in the development area in the Union, which has no doubt contributed to Fiji's recent improved performances at age grade, 7's and national team levels.

FRU's chief executive officer, Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua who was thrilled to hear the news added that the stability within the FRU Board and Management has also been an important factor in the level of success achieved.

The next review will take place in January 2008 and will form the basis of the FRU's submission for the next round of High Performance funding, which will be announced in April 2008.
