After Fiji's disappointing performance in the South Africa 7s this morning, the Fiji rugby union still maintains their stand about their plans to take sevens rugby forward and that better days are ahead.

Fiji failed to live up to expectations again as lack of support play, indiscipline and poor defence let the team down as we went out of the Cup quarter-final and then lost to Wales again in the plate final.

The Digicel Fiji 7s team was one of the poorest defensive sides out of the 16 participating teams in South Africa while Fiji made the highest number of unforced errors in Dubai.

Fijivillage asked the Fiji Rugby Union Chairman Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga about the team's performance.

Tikoitoga added that Fiji is not the only team that has not lived up to expectations and stands by the changes that was made to the team.

Meanwhile, disappointment, anger and frustration is being expressed by many fans today.

Fiji lost to Wales 26-12 in the plate final this morning.

Meanwhile, New Zealand won the South Africa 7s title for the fourth year in a row by thrashing France 47-12 in the final while Tomasi Cama Junior was named player of the tournament.

Fiji has also dropped to third on the IRB 7s series table.

New Zealand maintain their top series standings with 60 points now, France is second with 46 points, Fiji third with 44 points and South Africa in fourth position with 41 points.

The next tournament is the Wellington sevens which kicks off on the 1st of February next year.

In Wellington, Fiji is pooled with Portugal, Scotland and Australia.

And it is history in the making for the 7s world as Portugal is the top seed in our pool in New Zealand.
