A vote of no confidence in the Fiji Rugby Union national council elected board members were tabled by Lautoka Rugby Union in the FRU AGM in Nadi today. 

The vote of no confidence was against FRU board members, Mosese Taga, Doctor Esther Williams and Filimoni Vatuvoka.

The motion was seconded by the Nadroga Rugby Union. 

The three board members have been replaced by John O’ Connor, Tiko Matawalu and Marika Luveniyali while Napolioni Batimala Daniel Whippy, trustees nominees Baljeet Singh and Dr Berlin Kafoa along with the Prime Minister’s nominee Filimoni Waqabaca were retained. 

This is an interim board until the AGM is held next month.

New interim board member John O’ Connor confirms that the vote of no confidence was only against the board members elected by the FRU council.

Nadroga Rugby Union President Tiko Matawalu also confirmed that they 
seconded Lautoka’s motion during the meeting.

FRU Chairman Filimoni Waqabaca welcomes the election of the interim board members, however he thanked the former members for giving their time to put FRU back on track.


 
Waqabaca added this has resulted in a huge turn around in terms of its financial status with the $100,000 loss incurred last year to $64,000 profit within seven months.

Meamwhile Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has been elected as the 
President of the Fiji Rugby Union.

The Annual General Meeting is expected to be held next month.
