The Fiji Rugby Union has confirmed that the Vodafone Fiji 7s players’ contracts will be finalized before the second leg of the IRB World 7s series in Dubai and Port Elizabeth.

This comes after concerns are being raised as some of our key 7s players are securing rugby contracts overseas.

Players that have secured overseas contracts include Pio Tuwai, Samu Saqiwa, Apisai Naqaliva, Samisoni Viriviri, Benito Masilevu and Donasio Ratubuli.

While speaking to Fijivillage, FRU’s Chief Executive Officer Radrodro Tabualevu said they are still looking at more financial assistance to assist in the contracting of players.

Tabualevu said discussions are still underway with coach Ben Ryan on certain aspects of the contracts.

Meanwhile, Ryan had earlier confirmed that Osea Kolinisau is the only player that is currently under contract with FRU.

It was earlier announced by FRU that if the players are contracted their salary will be on three tiers and will go according to their contract.

The bottom tier will be paid $15,000, the middle tier would be $17,500 and the top tier will get $20, 000.

Apart from the salaries, each player will be paid daily allowances during tournaments, $1,000 appearance fee per tournament and cash bonus from Vodafone starting from the plate competition win.
