The Fiji Rugby Union has today issued a statement to clear the air over concerns raised by rugby fans over the Ben Ryan Salary saga.

Many of the rugby public took their views to the media about Ben Ryan who volunteered to work without pay for three months for the FRU.

FRU Acting CEO Dr Berlin Kafoa said the FRU constitution states that all volunteers should be paid but due to the financial situation changes the board has also forfeited its privileges and in some instances personally paid for some of the FRU expenses.

Kafoa added the issue does not only happen with Ryan but to some of the FRU employees as well.

Kafoa stated to minimize expenses for FRU no board member has travelled on overseas tours while Board Member Dr Esther Williams attended the Gold Coast 7s at her own expense and Chairman Waqabaca travels to the Las Vegas 7s at his own expense.

Kafoa said that the rugby public should be aware that not only Ryan was a victim of the financial situation faced by FRU as many of the FRU board members made certain sacrifices.
