The Fiji Rugby Union has announced a net deficit of $334,740 in the 2007 financial year, mainly owing to expenses incurred in preparing the FMF Flying Fijians for the Rugby World Cup.

This compares with a net surplus of $349,504 in 2006.

FRU CEO, Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua said that the total expenditure incurred for the World Cup campaign totalled close to $2 million.

Tavanavanua said this is an investment in Fiji Rugby and reaching the World Cup quarterfinals was a great achievement and well worth the experience.

The major sources of income were sponsorship, IRB grants and Fiji Government grant.
