The Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority has today clarified the changes in the Fringe Benefits tax this year.

Chief Executive Officer Jitoko Tikolevu said currently the responsibility of paying fringe benefit tax rests with the employee but this year the responsibility will be with the employers who will pay the 20% except for cash benefits.

Tikolevu added that if the employer provided a vehicle and since it was not cash, the employer would still be required to meet the 20% and for cash benefits, the employee is responsible for it.

The fringe benefits by the employer will no longer be allowed as a deduction for tax returns.
