The planned reduction of the retirement age in the civil service topped the agenda at the Fiji Public Service Association's (FPSA) Suva branch AGM last night.
FPSA General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh told the over 1000 members in attendance that the decision would have a widespread impact on the entire working population.
He also revealed that a PSC circular has been issued to all government departments and statutory bodies to hand in names of people above 55 years.
Singh also revealed that the FPSA and FTA have filed the stay order yesterday afternoon and are awaiting a court date, but stressed to his members, that if the stay is not given, they will continue to knock on the doors of the courts.
It was also highlighted last night that 1,852 FPSA members and an estimated 1000 senior teachers would be directly affected by the decision to reduce the retirement age from 60 to 55.
