FPSA to Demand COLA
Speaking to Fiji Village News, FPSA Industrial Relations Advisor Nirbhay Singh said they receive requests on a daily basis where members seek assistance to overcome financial hardships they are currently facing due to escalating cost of living.
Singh’s said cost of living is directly linked to inflation and the interim government cannot deny the workers their right to COLA.
The FPSA's branch meetings will be held in the coming weeks before a decision is made on the percent of COLA they will seek.
The Public Service Commission had earlier said that the currently financial constraints would not allow the PSC to negotiate any COLA payments at this stage.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Bank and Finance Sector Employees Union is keeping its fingers crossed that the FNPF will honor the decision by the disputes committee to pay its members 5% COLA.
Speaking to Fiji Village, General Secretary, Pramod Rae revealed that there has been no word from the Fund.
The union members employed by FNPF went on strike on 13th December 2007 when FNPF refused to grant salary adjustments for 2005 and 2006, performance salary increments and bonuses for 2007.
FNPF CEO Aisake Taito is yet to comment on the matter since the award was granted last week.
