FNU signs MOA with Indian Council
This agreement establishes the Dadasaheb Phalke, the Chair of Indian Cinema/Film Production at the Fiji National University for 3 years effective from this year.
The Chair is in recognition of the legendary Indian film producer, director and screenwriter, referred to as the father of Indian Cinema, DadaSaheb Phalke.
Under the MOA, the Dadasaheb Phalke Professor will become a part of the teaching and staff of the FNU's Department of Film, Media and Journalism.
Vice Chancellor Dr Ganesh Chand said that the FNU is thrilled with the establishment of the Dadasaheb Phalke Chair.
He said the Chair will not just benefit the FNU but would benefit the nation.
The university is now recruiting additional highly qualified and talented film makers to fully man the Film and TV section of the department.
Meanwhile, Indian High Commissioner to Fiji Prabhakar Jha while signing the agreement yesterday said that this is the first chair in Indian Cinema and Film Production to be established anywhere in the world.
He said that the initial agreement covers 2010 to 2012 and may be extended.
