The Fiji National University's College of Medicine will be increasing its intake for 2010 by 20%.
College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences Dean Prof Ian Rouse said more than 400 students will be offered places in the wide range of programs, adding this is a response to the significant need for better qualified public health professionals, environmental health officers, dieticians and physiotherapists.
Prof Rouse said they are working very closely with the Health Ministry to ensure that Fiji has the right mix of well qualified health professionals to help achieve the objectives set by the Ministry for improving the health of the people of Fiji.
According to Prof Rouse the record offers for 2010 reflects a very strong partnership between the Fiji School of Medicine and the Health Ministry.
Vice Chancellor, Dr Ganesh Chand believes that the newly formed College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science will be one of the key colleges in the new University.
He says that the growth in student offers in all programs including nursing is a clear reflection of the desire of the University to train the work force that is needed for Fiji.
Meanwhile, $1million has been spent in upgrading student accommodation and facilities, teaching and library spaces and equipment in FSN and FSM.
