FNPF recovers $2.36m
The FNPF News reports that $1.44 million was recovered from employers before cases were filed in court and a further $216,000 collected through debt recovery and $119, 000 through the courts.
The FNPF CEO Aisake Taito said 48 employers were also prosecuted and $581,000 was recovered and stresses that the non payment of FNPF contributions is a serious offence.
Taito said the recovery process is part of an intensive exercise to recoup a considerable amount of money employers owe the FNPF as part of the superannuation scheme.
Meanwhile, the Fiji national Provident Fund's case filed against two former executives in an attempt to try and recover money owed by the two was in called before Judge Justice Filimone Jitoko this morning.
FNPF's Manager Legal Alvina Khan confirmed preliminary discuss were held today with opposing counsels on the action filed against former FNPF General Manager Olota Rokovunisea and former Deputy General Manager Foana Nemani.
FNPF confirms that the legal action is to recover certain funds alleged misused by the two executives during their term in office as highlighted in an Audit report by Earnest and Young. The amount of money alleged to be owed by the two has not been revealed.
The case is adjourned to Friday.
Meanwhile, Rokovunisea and Nemani are also taking legal action against the FNPF for their removal from office as they allege that it was illegal.
The two executives were terminated following allegations of abuse of office and members funds.
