With only three days remaining for private tertiary institutes to qualify for FNPF Education Withdrawal Assistance, the Fund reveals that only five institutes have sought recognition.

FNPF Chief Executive Aisake Taito said they are assessing the requests at the moment.

The Fund introduced the strict criteria as there were cases where some institutes enrolled bogus students or where institutions closed down without students being taken into account.

As a result, the private tertiary schools have to submit their audited financial reports, company annual returns and company tax returns for them to qualify for assistance.

So far the recognized institutes are the Fiji National University (FNU), USP, University of Fiji and the Training and Productivity Authority of Fiji (TPAF).

Meanwhile, Taito reveals that investigations are continuing into complaints received in cases where bogus students were enrolled with the members pocketing the FNPF payout.
