Whenever an economist makes a presentation on any topic affecting the Fiji economy, the Fiji National Provident Fund and its policies are highlighted and it has become an easy target during any public presentation.
At a public lecture by USP Economist Dr. Sunil Kumar today, the FNPF was again put in the spotlight.
However, a member of the audience, FIT Chairman Iqbal Janiff put Dr. Kumar on the spot and questioned why economists are now raising issues about the superannuation fund and have not used their knowledge and skills to improve the FNPF.
Dr. Kumar replied by alleging that people from within FNPF have benefitted in the past and no actions have been taken.
Meanwhile, serious concerns have been raised by FIT Director Dr. Ganesh Chand that economists are losing their credibility and not doing the work required to help analyse the on the ground realities of the current economic situation in the country.
