The Fiji Labour Party has supported the call by the Fiji Human Rights Commission for an independent inquiry into whether the Australian government had breached international laws and Fiji's sovereignty in the months leading to the December 5th Coup.

Party President Jokapeci Koroi said the report released by the Commission into Australian intervention in Fiji in October and November 2006 is scary and alarming.

Koroi said she was surprised that the media had not published the report in full.

She said Australia needed to explain what its armed forces were doing in Fiji territory and that its explanation that it was on standby to evacuate Australian citizens if the need arose was unacceptable.

The Australian High Commissioner to Fiji James Bately earlier said they would not comment on the matter.
