FLP express shock at Bhutto’s death
General Secretary Mahendra Chaudhry said Bhutto's assassination is a senseless act of political terrorism which has deprived Pakistan of an internationally renowned and respected leader.
Chaudhry said Bhutto was seen as a beacon of hope for the million's of Pakistani people who aspired for a free, fair and democratic Pakistan after 8 years of martial law. He said it is a tragedy that Bhutto has not been allowed to realize her vision for Pakistan and the rest of the world. He said his party's condolences are with Bhutto’s family and the people of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, The Fiji Muslim league is also deeply saddened at the violent death of Benazir Bhutto who according to the National President Hafiz Khan, was the first female to be elected Prime Minister in any Muslim nation.
He said many people in Fiji have roots and close family ties in Pakistan thus the welfare of the people of Pakistan is of great concern to the Muslim League.
He said the League prays for peace, harmony and understanding for the people of Pakistan in these troubled times.
Currently Pakistan is on fire following the assassination of Former Pakistani Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto early this morning.
In protest, Benazir Bhutto supporters are burning buses, shops, cars, buildings, rioting through the towns blaming Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf for her death. Her body has been flown for burial to her home village in Southern Pakistan.
Bhutto had just addressed an election rally in Rawalpindi when she was shot in the neck by a gunman who then set off a bomb which also killed 22 people.
