The Fiji Labour Party has called for an inquiry into the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Office.
In a statement released, the party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry said the FLP delegates at their conference yesterday, called for an inquiry to investigate inordinate delays in taking certain important national cases to court, despite the fact that investigations into many of these cases have been completed and files sent to the DPP's Office.
Chaudhry added that the DPP should be sent on leave to enable a proper inquiry to be conducted.
He also said the party are concerned about the deteriorating law and order situation in the country particularly the increase in violent home invasions and robberies.
Chaudhry added that the FLP called on the Police force to adopt effective strategies to combat rapidly declining crime situations and for existing Police resources to be better deployed to fight crime.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Teacher's Union has strongly hit out at the Fiji Labour Party's president's comments that the Civil Service has become lazy and non-responsive to the demands of the nation.
General Secretary, Agni Deo Singh said these comments coming from Jokapeci Koroi are shocking because the Fiji Labour Party has always supported civil servants.
Fiji Labour Party President, Jokapeci Koroi in her presidential speech at the FLP's Delegates Conference yesterday said that the civil service is bloated and incompetent and targets must be set to reducing the civil service progressively, so that it stands at 70 per cent of its present level in three years.
