Do not let them bully us into an early election.

These are the words of the Fiji Labour Party in response to the move by the Pacific Islands Leaders Forum to ensure that the general elections are held in Fiji, in the first quarter of 2009.

President Jokapeci Koroi in a statement said that there are a lot of things that are fundamentally wrong and needs to be addressed before elections take place. She adds that elections should only take place once the electoral machinery has been cleaned up to ensure that a free and fair voting process is in place.

Koroi also adds that the Electoral Commission is the only ones that should set out a date for elections.

This follows comments by New Zealand Prime Minister, Helen Clark saying that sanctions placed against Fiji maybe be lifted once the Interim Government has shown a credible road map to elections by the first quarter of 2009.
