The Fiji Institute of Technology is planning to offer courses for students to study the Hindi and Fijian languages from later this year.
Alifereti Cawanibuka, Dean for the Faculty of Humanities, Commerce and Creative Arts, said this offer is an attempt to try and re-establish the status of the two languages in Fiji.
He said this would present opportunities to people who want to teach Hindi or Fijian in schools.
With the Bachelor of Education programme commencing early this year, plans are in place to offer Fijian or Hindi as a major and it is also offered to those who wish to complete tertiary studies in this area.
The programme has been given recognition by the Ministry of Education.
