The Fiji Island Revenue and Customs Authority are waiting for its board to discuss the matter on the Fiji National Provident Fund Nasese Complex, before deciding on their next move.

A Ministry of Information press statement said FIRCA is reconsidering its tenancy contract on the new FNPF complex following a huge cost overrun on the project and the Fund's failure to deliver the building within the agreed time schedule.

FIRCA Acting Chief Executive, Jitoko Tikolevu said for the moment the Authority is waiting for the Interim Finance Minister to appoint a Board Chairman, then meet to decide on the issue, as they have not met since November last year.

Interim Finance Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry said that with the costs already ballooning to $30.5 million, FIRCA would be forced to pay a ridiculous sum of $2.2 million or more in annual rental.

FIRCA believes the FNPF Board should have at least entered into negotiations with FIRCA to scale down the size of the project in order to contain costs.

FNPF Board Chairman, Peceli Vocea is expected to comment later.
