FIFA final currently deadlocked
The match has progressed into the 40 minute mark with Spain looking better of the two teams so far creating scoring opportunities for themselves but have not found the net.
Spain Defender, Puyol and Netherlands Robin Ven Persie and Van Bommel have also been shown yellow cards in the match so far.
Looking at the final itself, whoever wins, a new name is to enter the history books as world champions and with it the label of being the first European nation to win outside its own continent.
Ahead of the final, Spain captain Iker Casillas admitted they have been suffering from nerves throughout the World Cup finals.
Spain went into the tournament as favorites to win their first ever FIFA World Cup, but lost to Switzerland in their opening group game.
However, the European champions are yet to find their top form and each of their wins against Portugal, Paraguay and Germany in the knockout rounds have come by a single goal.
In contrast, the Netherlands have scored two or more goals against Slovakia, Brazil and Uruguay in the knockout stages to extend their winning streak to 14 matches ahead of what many saw as an unlikely final appearance.
While the Dutch side lacks the flair of some of it's predecessors most notably the Total Football side of the 1970s, who were twice losing World Cup finalists, Netherlands winger Arjen Robben said his team must forget about trying to play the 'beautiful game' and focus purely on winning the World Cup.
Just a reminder, the final of the FIFA World cup is under-way in the first half between Spain and Netherlands with both teams currently locked at nil-all.
