FICTU to meet to decide next step
However Speaking to Village News, FTA General Secretary Tevita Koroi believes that their strike will still have the desired impact as their affiliates, the Public Employees Union and the Viti National Union of Taukei Workers are still required to be at work.
Koroi also confirms that they have sought legal advise from Senior counsels of Howards Law Firm on their strike and what steps should be taken by the FICTU unions. He said FTA members will not be required to picket next week when school breaks for second term holidays and their next step is expected to be revealed in a joint statement to be issued later today.
The Ministry of Education announced yesterday that the second term school holidays has been brought forward and will now start next Monday August 6th and end on August 17th in light of the strike by members of the FTA.
Interim Education Minister Netani Sukanaivalu also revealed that the Eight Year Examinations will now be held on August 29th and 30th.
