Members of the Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions are awaiting a response from the interim cabinet this afternoon on their proposals that the five percent pay cut for their members be restored by August this year.

Speaking to Village news Fijian Teachers Association President Tevita Koroi confirms that they have called on the interim government to fully restore the paycut and to maintain the retirement age in the civil service at 60 years and not 55 which is currently being implemented.

Koroi said the FTA, Public Employees Union and the Viti Taukei Workers Union are now waiting for the interim cabinets decision later today before deciding their next step.

Meanwhile, Fiji Public Service Association Industrial Advisor Nirbhay Singh said the clock is ticking but the interim government has not made any effort to engage the confederation of public sector unions.

The confederation maintains its members will go on strike on July 19th.
