FICTU Wants Investigation into Rajeshwar Singh’s Appointment
While there are no signs of resolution in sight between some public sector unions and the interim government, the split amongst the two major umbrella unions in Fiji continues.
The Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions is now calling on the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption to investigate the appointment of Fiji Public Service Association General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh as chairman of Airports Terminal Services.
In their proposal to the Interim Public Service Minister Poseci Bune yesterday, FICTU chairperson Taniela Tabu alleged that Singh's appointment is a pay off for his acceptance of the 1 percent pay cut which tantamounts to abuse of office and corruption.
However, in a statement, the newly appointed ATS chairman and Fiji Public Service Association General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh said he was appointed by the board of the ATS based on integrity and competence and the overall confidence showed by the board of directors
According to Singh, Tabu’s latest ploy is out of frustration for his failure to fulfill the wishes of their members.
