The Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions (FICTU) said the Public Service Commission (PSC) has not acted in good faith after its chairman announced that all civil servants hired from this month, will be on a three year contract and the automatic pay increments through the Cost of Living Adjustment for civil servants, be scrapped.
General Secretary Attar Singh said they will have consultations with other Union affiliates on this matter before deciding their next step.
Meanwhile, Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary Agni Deo Singh said if talks do not bring a fruitful resolution then walking off their jobs will be their last resort.
PSC chairman Rishi Ram earlier said they have decided to take this step to ensure greater efficiency in the civil service as these contracts will be performance based.
