FICAC told to make new submissions
High Court Judge, Justice Daniel Goundar told FICAC lawyer, Aca Rayawa that they need to be specific when seeking a consolidation.
This is after the High Court heard that Qarase's lawyer Qoriniasi Bale had not filed any affidavits in response to the matter, as it would require they reveal details that would be prejudicial to his client and their other case before the Courts.
Justice Goundar said FICAC need to justify their new submission and the circumstances surrounding the need for a joint hearing.
FICAC is seeking to consolidate the proceeding as they say that the alleged offences occurred while Qarase was the Chairman of the Fijian Holding Limited and while Weleilakeba was CEO, saying the alleged offence took place under the same circumstances.
Weleilakeba is charged with 3 counts of Forgery, Conspiracy to commit an unlawful act and uttering false documents while Qarase is charged with abuse of office while being the Chairman of FHL and it is alleged the offence took place between 1992 to 1995 while the two were both working together.
FICAC is to make new submissions by the 25th of this month while the matter will be called for hearing on the 27th of November.
