FICAC saves over $1.2M
In 2009, FICAC received a total $5.4 million in grants from government for its operational and capital costs and the report said as a result of stringent measures put in place to control the yearly expenditure, they were able to record the savings.
The report also highlights FICAC was able to carter for the 4,365 complaints received in 2009 due to increase in staffing, increase in advertising and awareness programs, change in the locality of its headquarters and a change in the complaints receipt and resolution process.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of FICAC George Langman said the major challenge faced by FICAC was the deficiency in maintaining a pool of senior prosecutors which was addressed in the second half of the year with the arrival of Prosecutors from Sri Lanka.
Langman said it is envisaged that more overseas prosecutors will be engaged by FICAC in the near future.
