The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has revealed that there are a total of 22 people who have been charged this year with corruption related cases.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, FICAC Deputy High Commissioner George Langman revealed that so far 20 public officials and two businessmen have been charged with corruption related cases.

Among those charged are ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase, former chief executive officer of Fijian Holdings Limited Sitiveni Weleilakeba and former chief executive officer of the Fiji National Provident Fund Olota Rokovunisei.

Langman added that FICAC will continue to conduct investigations and prosecutions in light of yesterday's decision by High Court Judge Justice Nazhat Shameem in FICAC's case against Commissioner Central Inoke Devo, where she ruled that FICAC should refer those cases which it wishes to have prosecuted in the High Court to the DPP.
