FICAC Records Its first conviction in Labasa Court
The court heard that in 2005 between May to July Savenaca Labavuka falsified entries and records in the Co-operatives cash book.
While passing the sentence, Magistrate Anare Tuilevuka said that it is clear that a high degree of trust was placed upon Labavuka by his employer and stakeholders and he abused the trust.
Meanwhile, Interim Minister for Anti Corruption and Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Saiyed Khaiyum said the conviction and the sentencing was due to dedication and hard work of FICAC officers.
He also say that since the High Court ruling in the Qarase case upheld the legality of FICAC and the right of FICAC to bring prosecution in it's own name, it was disingenuous for lawyers of supposed high standing in the legal community to use delay tactics in court on the flawed logic that FICAC was illegal.
