The Fiji Hoteliers and Tourism Association (FHTA) is hoping for a $1.5 million increase in their budget allocation for next year.

Outgoing President Dixon Seeto at their AGM last Friday revealed that the FHTA said they have asked the government for $24.5 million for 2010 and $25.5 million in 2012.

Seeto said their appeal at the 2010 Consultative Forum is for consistent and sustainable funding for Tourism Fiji.

He said the future of the industry remains challenging and much work still needs to be done adding they continue to see encouraging signs of a slow economic recovery.

Seeto also revealed that their member numbers decreased slightly as a result of the tight economic conditions.

In 2007 they had 305 members which decreased to 286 last year.
