The Fiji Law Society said the Fiji Human Rights Commission should not get involved in the Interim Finance Minister's tax saga.
President, Isireli Fa said while Mahendra Chaudhry knows what to do, the FHRC should just stay out of it.
FHRC Chairperson, Dr Shaista Shameem yesterday told Village News that she had advised Chaudhry to find a lawyer, not to say more to the media and added the FHRC would be ready to assist in freedom of expression issues in the case and that she thought he had a good case of defamation against the Fiji Times, who had printed tax evasion allegations against Chaudhry.
When questioned this afternoon on why the FHRC had taken such a stance and advised Chaudhry, Dr. Shameem preferred not to comment saying the matter will be before the courts.
