No meeting has been organised by the Fiji Human Rights Commission and its Commissioner or Commissioners since December last year.
Human Rights Commissioner and Fiji Women's Crisis Centre Coordinator, Shameema Ali said the onus is on the Director of the Commission to sanction a meeting of all the relevant parties, so human rights issues may be discussed.
However, FHRC Director, Dr Shaista Shameem said the Chairperson, at that time, Rodney Acraman, was also the Administrative Head of the Commission and it is he, who by law, allocates spheres of responsibility among Commissioners and he, who decides who is to be consulted on anything.
Shameem added that it is difficult to convene a meeting when Ali does not recognise anyone at the Commission.
