The Fiji Human Rights Commission has lodged a complaint against law firm Munro Leys for allegedly violating the constitution while facilitating the formation of the Duavata Initiative Company.

FHRC Director Dr Shaista Shameem has requested the Fiji Law Society to immediately instigate an independent review into the conduct of the law firm as they allege that Munro Leys violated the Constitution in helping with the registration of the Duavata company.

The FHRC said the subject of such a review should be whether this particular law firm, or any of its principals, consequently infringed the laws of Fiji.

In a statement, Managing Partner at Munro Leys Richard Naidu said they have not been officially informed of anything and knno nothing about the complaint against them.

Naidu said a similar complaint was lodged against the firm to the Law Society a few years ago by the Fiji Labour Party and the Law society sought their response, which was provided.

He said nothing further was heard from the Law Society.
