The Fiji Football Association has been given the green light to build a soccer academy in the Southern Division.

First it was said that the academy will be built in Nadawa Nasinu, but the Nadawa landowners failed to reach an agreement with Fiji FA.

But the Suva City Council jumped onboard and agreed to help Fiji FA to build the academy.

Fiji FA President Doctor Samsud Dean Sahu Khan confirmed today that the soccer academy will now be built in Karsanji Bhindi Park in Vatuwaqa.

He said Suva City Council has agreed to give them a 6-acre land with a deal attached to it that apart from the soccer field, they will also have to build an International standard rugby field.

Sahu Khan said apart from the soccer and rugby field, the academy will also have a cricket pitch, netball courts, futsal soccer pitch and the Fiji FA headquarters. He said there will also be a kitchen and change rooms for around 30 players.

FIFA has given Fiji FA $500,000 to build the academy and the construction work will start next month and it must finish by September 2009.

Meanwhile, Jahir Khan has been appointed the new President of Suva soccer and he replaces interim President, Maratino Nemani.

Khan will enter office next month.
