The Fiji Employers Federation is lobbying for possible amendments to the maternity clause in the Employment Relations Promulgation which is now in force.

FEF president Dixon Seeto confirmed to Fijivillage that they are talks with the Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Labour and Ministry of Finance.

As employers around the country continue to raise concern at the Maternity Clause, Seeto revealed that certain tax incentives were being proposed to take the burden away from the employers.

Seeto said their argument was that the government of the day should also invest in the future workforce.

Permanent Secretary for Labour Taito Waqa earlier confirmed that talks are underway between the parties on the maternity clause and the Ministry of Finance is exploring the proposed tax incentives.

Under the maternity provision, a woman is entitled to full pay for her first three births and half pay for any children born after that.
