The President of the Fiji Employers Federation is calling on the interim government to assist them by offering a small measure of compensation to the employers for all women who are sent on maternity leave.

Speaking at the Prime Ministers Mini Economic summit Ken Roberts said the state is the ultimate beneficiary of the increase in the working population in the long run and not the employer of the females giving birth.

Roberts adds the employer has two tasks and that is to pay the female who goes on leave, as well as the person who has to fill the vacant position left behind.

Roberts said what is worrying is that women are not hired by employers because of this issue.
