The water level at the Monasavu Dam has started to decrease rapidly and should the trend of low rainfall continue over the next two months, it could result in a shortage of electricity supply.

Based on this, the Fiji Electricity Authority is expected to inform the people of Fiji today on the situation currently faced by the FEA due to the water levels at Monasavu.

According to the FEA, over the last few months, we have had below average rainfall in the catchment area for the Monasavu Dam.

The FEA said this has been a concern for some time and they have managed the water resource responsibly in order to optimize electricity generation.

The FEA will reveal its options later this afternoon and will also highlight the need to conserve and save energy.
