The Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) believes that short term solutions used in the past to meet the power needs of the people has led to the huge increase in diesel use to provide electricity.
Acting CEO Sunil De Silva said these decisions are the reason for the huge fuel bill incurred by the FEA which would not have happened if renewable energy sources were used from the start instead of diesel generators.
Meanwhile, De Silva said the FEA has no immediate plans to set up another wind farm until the five year trial period of the Butoni wind farm is complete.
