The Fiji Electricity Authority is expected to surpass the $140 million mark in fuel cost this year due to increased use of diesel generators to supply power.
This is also due to the reduced hydro power generation and increasing fuel prices.
FEA Chief Executive, Hasmukh Patel said the diesel cost that is ideal for FEA is about 50 percent of the current fuel price.
Patel said fuel costs for FEA will reach the highest level ever in 2010.
The Commerce Commission is still analysing the FEA=s request for further tariffs increases.
A tariff increase was granted in June this year but FEA said the increase is not sufficient based on increased losses to supply power to all the divisions in the country.
