The Fiji Electricity Authority is embarking on new renewable energy developments which will start generating electricity.
This will result in FEA spending less on diesel operated generators to produce electricity.
FEA Chief Executive, Hasmukh Patel said FEA itself is working on a single renewable energy project in Nadarivatu which will cost around US$150 million.
Patel also confirms two independent power producers in the Western Division have shown interest in helping FEA generate renewable energy.
Patel had earlier stated that if Fiji continues to get no rainfall in the coming weeks, the FEA could take the option of rationing power, after it was revealed that the water level at the Monasavu catchment area, now sits at eight and half meters above the safe operating level.
Patel explains that if we continue to generate electricity from the current water level at Monasavu and get no rain in the coming weeks, than by the 9th or 10th of December, the Monasavu catchment will run out of water.
