The Fiji Electricity Authority is currently restoring power to most of the areas in the country that were affected with no electricity today due to the effects of Cyclone Tomas.
Ministry of Works Spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said power had to be shut down in some areas like Labasa and Savusavu as precautionary measures.
Waqainabete said some areas in the Central division were also affected including Queen Elizabeth Drive, Wailekutu, Nasinu and Sawani areas due to fallen power lines.
Meanwhile, Waqainabete said FEA has advised people to treat all fallen lines as live.
She added the restoration work has begun with the water pumps first.
