The Fiji Electricity Authority has today called on the public and organisations to obtain clearance from FEA concerning the presence of underground cables prior to any excavation works to avoid damage to FEA's assets, disruption of power supply and most importantly electrical accidents that could lead to loss of life.

The call comes after the FEA clarified that it's high voltage cable to the Savura Water Pumping Station was damaged during excavation works by the Water Authority of Fiji on Monday.

FEA said this resulted in the disruption of power supply to the Savura Pumping Station and as a result of this power disruption, the water supply to various parts of Suva was badly affected.

Once the matter was reported to the Authority, FEA engineers and technicians then commenced to work around the clock to repair and commission the damaged cables and power supply was restored to the Savura Pumping Station by 8.15 last night.
