The Commerce Commission has announced an interim increase in tariffs for the Fiji Electricity Authority effective from September 1st, 2009 to August 31st, 2011.
The interim increase approved is an average of 3.2cents per unit.
Chairman of the Commerce Commission Dr Mahendra Reddy has assured customers that the tariff increase will not affect domestic life line consumers, those whose bills are $50 or less per month and all religious organizations, schools, street lights, and other NGOs approved to be exempted from the increase.
Dr Reddy has also asked FEA to try and reduce its operating expenditure.
Dr Reddy said after examining the submission from FEA, the Commission was mindful of the fact that the price sought and approved should reflect a competitive market price.
