FDB Takes Legal Action Against FICAC
The case was called in High Court Judge Justice Jiten Singh's chambers this morning, and FDB's Devinesh Sharma confirms that the legality of FICAC is also being questioned.
However, Sharma said they have agreed to await developments in the Laisenia Qarase case which may address the legality of the promulgations by the interim government.
Sharma also revealed that FDB will not allow any documents which were seized by FICAC in raids at the premises, from being made public.
FICAC's Legal Counsel, Adish Narayan confirms that they will file a response to FDB's claims within 21 days. However, he stresses that the action does not stop FICAC from continuing investigations against FDB and laying charges where appropriate.
The case is adjourned till October 30th.
Meanwhile, FICAC continues investigations into FDB, after allegations of suspicious transactions relating to tax dollars allocated to the bank by the Fijian Affairs Ministry.
