While trying to addressing the issue of vacancy in the civil service after the retirement age policy was implemented, the Fiji Council of Social Services will be working with retired teachers to pull them into a volunteer scheme.
FCOSS Director, Hassan Khan said that many that have retired still have the energy and want to be involved in some kind of work.
Khan said that the Council came across a few cases where many retirees were still in shock over their retirement and they are looking at providing counselling for them.
He added that the workshop planned for later this year will also look at drafting in young workers to engage with the retirees.
The States Service Decree promulgated earlier this year saw all civil servants 55 years and over retire.
